Original1 wanted to provide widely accessible product authentication and anti-counterfeiting service on multiple mobile platforms.

The goal:

Original1, global provider of product authentication and anti-counterfeiting services, wanted to develop mobile clients for platforms such as Symbian and iPhone that would provide support for 1D and 2D barcode reading. They wanted NFC support (a short-range wireless communication technology) to be added later on in the process.

The process:

We got down to business with a pre-study project where the Futurice team analyzed the different ways to bring barcode reading to the target platforms. The pre-study was followed by several implementation projects where we used open source software to accelerate the development of the readers. We enjoyed the challenge of implementing the app for many platforms without losing its look and feel.

The result:

Original1 can now provide their product authentication and tracking service on multiple mobile platforms, which makes their service available to an even larger group of enterprise end-users and consumers. Futurice developed Original1 mobile clients for Symbian Qt, Android and BlackBerry. The barcode readers on Symbian and iPhone currently support all the most important barcode types, like EAN, DataMatrix, and QRCode. New mobile clients are already in the development pipeline, such as O1 WP7 and mobile web clients. Futurice will also support Original1 in web development activities. There’s plenty of work ahead!
