Working with Nokia and constantly evolving Qt technology to create an app slick enough to live up to the Hollywood-hype.
The goal:
In 2010 Nokia’s N8 appeared as the ultimate hacking tool in Disney’s Hollywood blockbuster “TRON: Legacy”. Nokia wanted to design and create a fun and visually exciting app, available in Ovi Store, where N8 users could solve trivia challenges and unlock rewards in the form of original movie screensavers, ringtones and trailers. The application had to be ready for release just before the worldwide premier of “TRON: Legacy”
The process:
Futurice worked to a very tight schedule, in collaboration with Fjord, and between customers, designers and developers distributed in four different time zones. The N8 was the first Nokia device to ship with Qt already installed, making this a case of working with technologies that were yet to fully mature. This is one of Futurice’s strong points so all processes were streamlined with the aim of quickly and efficiently getting an impressive app up and running for the mobile screen.
The result:
N8 users and movie fans can now use a high-tech app that looks as great as the Hollywood blockbuster. Nokia have received excellent feedback and Futurice’s creative team have few more exciting applications in development. Stay tuned for the next installment!
