The goal:
WordPress, an open source content management system (CMS), is one of the world’s most popular blogging platforms. There was a great need for a client that would allow bloggers to update and read their blog posts with their mobile devices based on Symbian and Maemo platforms. Futurice decided to help with that by driving an open source project to create a QT client for WordPress.
The process:
The project was done in close cooperation with the WordPress community. Backlog prioritization, feature set decisions and releases were done openly and transparently in the developer blog. The source code was fully available during the project and released under the GNU General Public License (GPL).
The result:
The end product of the project, the WordPress blogging application, was one of the first mainstream Qt applications available for Symbian and Maemo platforms.
The project was able to gather a nice and active community around the heavily demanded app and its development process. The stakeholders and sponsors were also actively supporting the project, making it possible to work together – actively and openly – with the community of mobile blogging enthusiasts.
